The movie version of Nite Owl features a grey, yellow and black costume similar to that from the comic book. The original Nite Owl, Hollis Mason, was among the core recruits of The Minutemen, and seemed to be the most down to earth of the roster of costumed adventurers. Originally a New York City policeman, Nite Owl predicated his crime fighting on intensive exercise and an effective, straightforward fighting style. Long after the Nite Owl's retirement, he granted permission to Dan Dreiberg, Nite Owl II, to adopt his name. Mason's correspondence with Dreiberg evolved into a longstanding friendship between the two crime fighters.
